Lady Gaga是欧美新生代流行音乐歌手，在1986年3月28日出生于美国纽约曼哈顿区的一个意大利后裔家庭，本名史蒂芬妮·乔安娜·安洁莉娜·杰尔曼诺塔〔Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta〕，是家中的长女。

“我是为了音乐而生的”，Gaga傲人的音乐天赋从小时候起便展露无遗。在4岁时她仅靠聆听便学会了弹奏钢琴；13岁时写下自我创作的第一首叙事抒情曲；14岁时就开始在公开场合进行演唱，崭露头角；17岁时被纽约大学音乐系看中，提前录取（像这样难得的名额每年仅20个）。

事与愿违，为了实现从小的音乐梦想，Gaga毅然决然地放弃了在学校继续深造的机会，进入美国的“社会大学”开始摸爬滚打。她抛开殷实的家境，不顾父母的劝阻，孤身一人在纽约的地下酒吧以唱歌和跳舞来维持生计。

成名前的2006年1月，Gaga与Def Jam唱片公司签约，以真名推出首张个人摇滚EPRed and Blue，但在3个月后因EP成绩不理想，她遭到公司无情的解约。那时候的她处于人生的最低谷，“我每天不是在吸食毒品，就是在哭，像个疯子一般”。但在那段最为黑暗的岁月里，她也始终没有放弃心中的信念，继续进行创作。
