专辑背景

从1995年2月1日开始，Manic Street Preachers的所有专辑似乎都是在为Richey Edwards所作。这一天MSP的吉他手Edwards突然失踪，一切毫无征兆，有如人间蒸发，此后更是活未见人、死未见尸，至今下落未明。2008年11月23日，Edwards被推定死亡，成为摇滚乐史上最大的一宗谜团。

2013年乐队摆脱解散传闻后发行了这张专辑，主要用来怀念Richey Edwards。

专辑赏析

专辑以一种近乎让时间凝滞的节奏和方式，将属于MSP的那部“电影”在乐迷眼前一一“重现”，一切看似轻描淡写，但琴弦拨过之处却留下浓墨重彩的希冀与感伤。没错，感伤——1995年之后你就可以用这个词来描述MSP的所有专辑了。从某种程度上来说，《Rewind The Film》与这个词更为贴合。尽管首支单曲《Show Me The Wonder》从头至尾都几乎是踩着激昂的管乐行进的，但这依然无法掩盖隐藏在歌曲背后的含义：“Show me the wonder/I have seen the birthplace of the universe/Show me the wonder/I have seen miracles move in reverse.”如果连“宇宙诞生”、“事物逆转”都不算奇迹的话，那么什么才是？对于MSP来说，离奇失踪18年之久的Richey Edwards若能生还，那便是最大的奇迹了。

《Rewind The Film》毫无疑问是MSP历来最为内敛的一张作品，这并不仅仅体现在器乐编配上。从人声上来说，他们首次改变了由James Dean Bradfield一人作主导的传统，邀请到Lucy Rose、Richard Hawley、Cate Le Bon分别在《This Sullen Welsh Heart》、《Rewind The Film》、《4 Lonely Roads》中担任演唱。对此Bradfield坦言道：“我唱了这么久，似乎很难再找到新的突破口了。对于鼓手或贝司手来说，要改变演奏方式并不难；但如果一个主唱想要改变他的声音，那只会让他听起来像个蠢货。我并没有十足的把握来唱好新专辑中的一些歌，因此如果有人愿意参与的话，我完全不介意。”

另一方面，从歌词上来说，MSP在这张专辑中唱出了自省、怀旧、绝望、批判，以及——就像他们在1995年之后的每张专辑里都会做的那样——对Richey Edwards的爱。在《As Holy As The Soil (That Buries Your Skin)》中Nicky Wire写道：“As holy as the Roman Empire/As holy as the coffee you made for us/As holy as those nights we walked in the rain/I love you so, will you please come home?”
